Sportswriting Samples

Sports have played a large role in my personal and professional journey. In an earlier post, I mentioned a bit about my time as a sports editor for my high school paper and the opportunity I had to cover the Memphis Grizzlies as a credentialed media member while still in high school. You can check out that part of my story here. My experience continued into my freshman year of college at Northwest Mississippi Community College where I supported the Sports Information office and the Lady Rangers women's basketball team as a student worker.

After some time working a full-time position as a team leader at a Chick-fil-A and working at Walt Disney World, I got the exciting chance to spend some time working under Connor Dunning, then-Director of Athletic Media Relations at Rhodes College, as his assistant. Now, you can hear Connor live on-air on 92.9 FM ESPN Monday through Friday 4-7 p.m. producing The Gabe Kuhn Show.

In that role, I wrote quite a bit of game stories and recaps for their basketball and lacrosse teams. I included a few examples below to show some of my strengths in sports writing. I am immensely grateful to Connor and Rhodes for the opportunity to gain the experience in that environment, which came with a wealth of personal growth.
